Long Green Volunteer Fire Company Signs Contract to Build First Ever Ambulance In Their 90 Year History
Ambulance will expand much-needed emergency medical service to the citizens of Glen Arm and surrounding areas.
The Long Green Volunteer Fire Company (LGVFC) signed a contract on Sunday, May 16, 2021 for purchase of a 2022 Ram 5500 4×4 Ambulance. This marks an historical moment for LGVFC as this will be the first ambulance placed in service by LGVFC. The ambulance will expand prompt emergency medical services to the community allowing for not only rapid emergency medical intervention but also transport to area hospitals.
“This ambulance is a critical life-saving system in our community, however the cost of a unit has prohibited LGVFC from adding an ambulance to service earlier in its history”, said LGVFC President Daniel Galloway. “We are grateful for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for their award.” President Galloway added, “I want to thank the committee who worked tirelessly to research and design Ambulance 385 that will enable us to save lives.”
After a compressive bid process, LGVFC ultimately chose Atlantic Emergency Solutions to build the ambulance. Captain Hobart Howell said “Atlantic Emergency solutions was chosen because of their dedication to quality and innovation as well as their excellent service.” Ambulance 385 is expected to be delivered in the summer of 2022. Total cost of the new unit is estimated to be $340,000.00. With the AFG award covering $285,714.29 of the purchase price, there remains a deficit of $55,000.00 that LGVFC must contribute to this purchase.
When asked how LGVFC plans to make up the remaining portion of the money needed to purchase Ambo 385, President Galloway replied, “We will continue to do what we have done for the last 90 years: fundraise. Our members are already working on specific projects; the proceeds will go to purchasing Ambo 385.” LGVFC plans to hold multiple events over the next year specifically targeting fundraising for Ambo 385.
